When the Final Four tips off this evening, the women’s basketball world will focus on Connecticut, Louisville, Oklahoma and Stanford as the four teams chase the dream of capturing a national championship.
For six players in particular, the Final Four also offers the biggest stage to make a final impression on the WNBA teams that will determine where they will play next at Thursday’s Draft.
While most teams have finished scouting players and have their draft strategy in place, there is still a chance that an outstanding performance can leave a lasting impression that carries into the war room on Thursday.
“Absolutely, I think the way you play in the tournament can affect your draft stock,” said Monarchs guard and ESPN basketball analyst Kara Lawson. “If a team is kind of close on a couple of players coming down the stretch, say they have identified three different post players that they are looking at and could potentially want to take with their pick, what could push them over to one side is how you play in the postseason and how you play when it counts.”
Who will step up when the spotlight is shining bright? Can Angel McCoughtry and Candyce Bingham keep Louisville’s magical run going against the Paris twins? Can Jillian Harmon and Stanford knock off Connecticut in the Final Four for the second year in a row? Or will Renee Montgomery lead the Huskies to the perfect season?
All of these questions will be answered over the next two days. With the eyes of the basketball world on these four teams and these six players, who will take advantage of this opportunity to leave the best final impression?
