If any team knows just how much of an impact that a high draft pick can make, it is the Washington Mystics who rode guard Alana Beard, the second overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, all the way to the playoffs last season despite the loss of franchise player Chamique Holdsclaw. But with Holdsclaw traded and Stacey Dales-Schuman retired, Mystics coach Michael Adams could sure use the addition of another high-impact rookie in the 2005 WNBA Draft.

Q. How have you been preparing for the upcoming WNBA Draft?
"We have been scouting a lot of the college games. Linda Hargrove has been scouting on the West Coast and I have scouted players on the East Coast."

Q. What methods do you utilize to scout players for the draft?
"We scout by positions."

When do you start getting prepared for the draft?
"As soon as the NCAA tournament gets on the way, we prepare for the draft."

Q. Are there specific areas or holes/weaknesses are you looking to bolster with your picks?
"Yes, we are looking to find someone who can run the floor and a tenacious rebounder."

Q. What are the most important traits you look for in prospects?
"We look for players that hustle at all times of the games, players who don't quit on plays, and those who play defense and don't worry about scoring."

Q. What players that you have seen have impressed you the most so far?
"Monique Currie has been impressive. Sancho Little of Houston, Sandora Irvin, Temeka Johnson have all been impressive, just to name a few."

Q. With your picks, are you targeting a specific player, a position, or will you take the best available players?
"We will take the best available players when it is our time to pick."

Q. What prospects do you feel can or will make an immediate impact in the League this season?
"It is hard to say. Monique Currie, if she comes out, will make an immediate impact."

Q. How important is the Tournament in helping you make last minute decisions?
"It is important to see how players perform in big games. If a player played well all year and has a bad game in the tournament it should not affect them."

Q. How does this year's Draft compare to previous ones?
"This year's draft is not as deep as last year's, but there are some players that still can make an impact."

Q. With free agency as an option now, are you more likely to fill needs through the Draft, free agency, or trades?
"We will do whatever we need to make our team better."
