Despite not playing for a program with considerable national recognition, Arkansas swing player Shameka Christon was the 2004 SEC Player of the Year as well as an AP All-American Third Team and All-SEC First Team honoree this season. She is projected to be a first round pick.

Q: What was your Pre-Draft camp experience like?
“It has been really exciting to play at another whole level than I am used to beyond college. I think that is what makes great players who they are. If our workouts were any indication, there will be so many more great players in the league. They are committed to working hard.”

Q: What skills are you trying to impress WNBA coaches and GMs with?
“I am trying to show that I am a versatile player that can play inside and outside, and that I have long range on the offensive front. I want to show that I can be a factor and help out in any and every possible way.”

Q: What areas of your game do you think you still need to work on?
“There are definitely areas that I need to work on and improve. Specifically, ball-handling and working on my defense.”

Q: What do you think will be your biggest challenge at the next level?
“I think my biggest challenge will come from being so small. I am still really skinny. Players in the WNBA are very physical and really strong. Competing against them will be my biggest challenge, so I will have to gain weight. I’ve tried several times, but I guess I just have a high metabolism.”

Q: Is there a specific WNBA team that you would like to play for?
“I will be happy to be with any team. When the WNBA first started, I definitely watched the Houston Comets and the Los Angeles Sparks because they were on television and were the powerhouses that won a lot."

Q: Are there any WNBA players that you are looking forward to meeting?
“I am really looking forward to playing with a lot of the WNBA players. There is probably at least one All-Star on every team that I would like to meet and go up against. Cynthia Cooper is really someone that I love and I don’t think I ever missed any of their games when they were first starting out.”

Q: Where will you be watching the draft on April 17?
“I will be watching the draft from the New York-area, but if I wasn’t, my friends and family were supposed to have a surprise Draft party for me, but none of them can keep a secret.”
