What were your thoughts coming into the draft? Were you nervous?

Smith: Yeah, I really didn’t know. I didn’t know what teams were looking for so I’m just happy to be chosen by Washington.

What do you think you can bring to Washington?

Smith: I think my inside game, maybe. I’m trying to get into the weight room and work a little more to get a little stronger. So hopefully I can get in there to get a few more boards. I guess I’m pretty versatile, like Chamique (Holdsclaw) or Asjha (Jones). They have a lot of versatile people.

You’re from Detroit. Did you hope Detroit would pick you with one of their two picks in the top five?

Smith: There was a little bit, but I wasn’t really sure. I didn’t want to get my hopes up and then have it crash down. So, I just stayed pretty calm.
