Kelsey Bone Q&A

Leading up to the April 15 draft, WNBA.com will be posting Q&As with the draft invitees so they can introduce themselves to WNBA fans.

Bone, who has already graduated, decided to forgo her last year of eligibility and enter the WNBA Draft. At 6-foot-4, Bone has a WNBA-ready body to compete in the post. This past season, she averaged 16.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and shot 64 percent from the floor.

What three words best describe your game?
Powerful, Physical, Strong

What strengths, qualities or skills will be able to bring to a WNBA team? I will bring my hunger to learn this game and play at a level that helps to continue the growth of the WNBA. I also would like to display my ability to develop relationships with the community in order to positively impact my team and the league. Finally, my ability to communicate and be a positive role model will be an asset to my team and the league.

What do you expect to be some of the biggest challenges or adjustments at the next level?
The physicality of the game and the mental preparation required at this level.

What specific skills do you need to work on in order to succeed at this level?
I think that I need to work on my defensive skills. My game has been one that focuses on my offensive skill set and I think that in order to become a truly great player and have the most powerful impact on my team, I need to become a much better defender.

When were you introduced to the game of basketball?
I was introduced to the game of basketball at the age of 9.

When did you know you wanted to be a professional basketball player? And, given that dream, when did you realize that you had a legitimate shot of doing so?
I knew I wanted to play professional basketball when I watched the Houston Comets win four consecutive championships, and I was at all four of them. I knew I had a legitimate shot at being a professional when I went overseas for the first time to France and played international basketball at the age of 16. I played against superior talent and several of the players from foreign countries were going pro. I was able to do well in that environment and realized that I could play this game professionally.

What do you think it will feel like when your name first gets called and who will you share the moment with?
Hearing my name called is going to be AMAZING. I have played the scene in my mind a thousand times! My mother and my 11-year old brother will be there to share the moment with me. However, my entire family, team, friends, and fans will be watching so they too will share in this moment with me!

Once you get settled in a new team, do you have any first-year goals in mind?
I am only 21 and feel that I have so much to learn. My main goal is to be an active learner and absorb all of the knowledge that I can. I want to make sure that each day I am doing all the necessary things that my Team needs me to do in order for us to be successful.

Are there any current WNBA players that you model your game after?
Tina Thompson is the person that I most model my game after.

What WNBA players are you most looking forward to playing against or meeting?
I am looking forward to playing against and meeting Tina Charles, Sylvia Fowles, Cheryl Ford, Plenette Pierson.

What is your best on-court moment?
Winning the SEC Tournament Championship and standing on the podium with my teammates and coaches!!!!

Tell your new fans something that most people do not know about you?
I love to shop, but not in public so I shop online late at night. I love receiving packages at my door!!!

How would you describe yourself? (i.e. outgoing, shy, silly, generous, life of the party)
I am initially a quiet person, however once you get to know me, you will find out that I enjoy having fun and am a prankster.

What’s your favorite movie? What type of music do you listen to? Any particular artists that you listen to prior to a game?
My favorite movie is Princess and the Frog….I like to listen to R&B, Hip Hop, and Gospel music….before a game I listen to Wale, Jay Z, Beyonce’, and J-Cole.
