COMETS COACH VAN CHANCELLOR

On the game:
"We really turned it up the second half tonight. Tina Thompson had some kind of second half. Sheryl Swoopes had a great game. Tiffani Johnson, once again, played really really well. We didn’t have any flow in our offense for the first half. One of the assistants suggested that we go to five-man motion, and we did, and that really worked. I thought our defense tonight was really good. Charlotte will be a different team when they get Allison Feaster here."

SHERYL SWOOPES

On the Comets:
"I thought we all took it upon ourselves personally to come out and do what we could do individually. I thought overall, as a team, we played extremely well. We executed what we wanted to do offensively and defensively we played pretty good. I thought we came out and really did what we focused on in pregame. Fortunately we came out with a win."

On the game:
"Charlotte had a very big, very nice crowd and we wanted to do whatever we could do to try and get the crowd out. I thought we had some great looks in the first half. I had some great looks, some of the shots fell, some didn’t. I thought Tin struggled a lot in the first half, she maybe had one point, but that’s the good thing about a player like that. You know she’s not going to get down. If anything that’s going to motivate her. Overall it was definitely a great team effort and a great team win."

TINA THOMPSON

On the game:
"The first half was a little brutal but we got our legs up for the rest of the game. We are on the second half of a back to back game and those are usually tough. We’ve played pretty good in the past but it’s definitely tough in those first couple of minutes to get your legs going. However, we got our second win and came out with a win and I’m very happy about."

On the significance of the win:
"I think this was a much needed win for us, no putting it lightly. We lost our season opener last night at home and from that point on we were playing catch up. Especially on the front end of a three-game road trip, getting a win tonight definitely gives us a lot of confidence and momentum going into the next two games."

STING COACH TRUDI LACEY

On the game:
"It was a tale of two halves. We shot the ball well in the first half, but came out tentative in the second half. We didn’t make the hustle plays and that is what I feel made the difference in the second half. We settled for jumpshots instead of being aggressive going to the basket. Therefore, I am disappointed in our second half performance."

On Sheryl Swoopes:
"Sheryl Swoopes was great tonight. What can you say about her? She’s an Olympian, an All-Star and she definitely showed it tonight."

ANDREA STINSON

On the game:
"Our game plan was to play them straight up on defense. Sheryl’s a great player. Tina’s a great player and they are going to get some shots off. They hit great shots. They hit shots with defense in their faces, shots you can't do anything about. I think we had some opening night jitters. Preseason we played our game and after this we are going to bounce back against Washington and get a win."

On their focus for the next game:
"Rebounding…rebounding and staying on our people on the defensive end are things we definitely nee to focus on. The jitters are out so now we can go and get this win."
