The Houston Rockets announced today that Houston Comets Head Coach and General Manager Van Chancellor will assume the role of analyst for the team’s television broadcasts this season. Chancellor will be teamed up with longtime Rockets play-by-play announcer Bill Worrell beginning with the team’s first preseason telecast, which will air on KNWS-51 this Sunday, when the Rockets battle the Miami Heat at Toyota Center.

Chancellor, who has previously worked in a similar capacity for ESPN’s coverage of women’s basketball, enters his first season of providing commentary on Rockets telecasts. Over the last eight years, he has established himself as a basketball expert after guiding the Houston Comets to four WNBA titles and the United States Women’s Team to a gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Since 1997, Chancellor has compiled a 174-80 (.685) regular season record and an 18-9 (.667) postseason record as Head Coach and General Manger of the Comets. He guided the Comets to seven playoff appearances and four-straight WNBA Championships from 1997-2000. The three-time WNBA Coach of the Year has also been honored with inductions into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Ole Miss M-Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. Prior to coming to Houston, Chancellor spent 19 seasons as the head coach of the University of Mississippi.

Worrell begins his 20th season as the team’s play-by-play announcer. The Rockets television broadcast team will again feature former Houston Comets guard Cynthia Cooper as studio analyst and halftime feature reporter as well as television studio co-host Jeff Hagedorn.
