Comets to Assist in Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts
Team to Collect Donations and Offer Free Playoff Tickets to Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi Residents
HOUSTON – The Houston Comets announced today that the team will offer free tickets for Tuesday night’s first round playoff game versus the Seattle Storm to displaced residents of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who have traveled to Houston for safety from Hurricane Katrina. Evacuees from the three states will be granted free admission tickets into the game upon showing a valid state issued identification card such as a driver’s license at Toyota Center’s box office. The offer will be limited to available seats. In addition, the Clutch City Foundation will take monetary donations and hold an auction of signed Comets memorabilia on Toyota Center’s main concourse to raise funds for victims of the Hurricane.
“Our hearts go out to the many people who have been dealing with the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina,” said Rockets/Comets President and Chief Executive Officer George Postolos. “Our organization has always had a desire to respond to those in need. We hope that this invitation, along with the money we raise, will in some small way help to ease the discomfort for those who have been forced to leave their homes in order to find a safe haven.”
Tuesday night’s series opener begins at 8:30 PM and will be nationally televised on ESPN2. To commemorate the team’s return to the playoffs this season, the first 3,000 fans will receive Memorial Hermann rally towels.
