July 23, 2002 - Here are a few of Tammy's most recent answers:

Q: I love the WNBA and I want to play when I am older. How much hard work did you have to do to be drafted?
Kate

Tammy:
I played high school ball, practiced all the time, played college ball, and played overseas. Always keep a ball in your hands and try to go to as many camps as you can during the offseason.

Q: What are some of the exercises you do to stay in shape?
Tiffany

Tammy:
I run three times a week, I run sprints, the leg press, leg extensions, and leg curls.

Q: I wanted to know what you like to do during the offseason?

Tammy:
I like to relax and work with children and young adults.

Q: How long have you been playing basketball?

Tammy:
Since I was eight, but I started really competing in high school.

Q: Did you play overseas?

Tammy:
I played from 1985 to 1987 in Sweden, Spain, Italy, France, Japan, and in Brazil.

Q: Why is women’s basketball not as popular as men’s basketball?
Dayla

Tammy:
Have you ever heard someone say it’s a man’s world? Women’s sports are on the up rise, so keep your dream alive.

Q: I am from Bermuda and I want to play for the WNBA. How do I get scouts from different colleges to come down and watch me?
Erica

Tammy:
Send videos to college coaches and then you can start going to some camps.

Q: What are the rules of etiquette for approaching players to obtain their autographs?
Jan

Tammy:
Some players are different. I think that after the game it would be OK. Never ask during meals of any kind though.

Q: I am only 5-2. Do you think that I might still have a chance to play in the WNBA at that height?

Tammy:
Keep hope alive. Be determined to play, if that is what you want to do. Kim Perrot was about 5-4 on our team.

Q: Who is the wittiest with “comebacks” - you, Tina Thompson or Sheryl Swoopes?
Deb

Tammy:
A combination of all three.

Q: I wanted to ask you if anyone gets mad when you do something that you shouldn’t have done on the court?
Tia

Tammy:
Yes. We get mad at each other on the court, but we also help each other on the court. Everything is always positive.

Q: Does Sheryl Swoopes ever have fun in the locker room, or is she always serious?
Addie

Tammy:
Sheryl is a very crazy person in the locker room and during practice. She isn’t always serious, only in games.

Q: What advice would you give a girl that has a gift, but is going down the wrong path?
Shron

Tammy:
I think that she needs a mentor in her life so she can have someone to talk to her and she can talk to him or her throughout the day or night. Always show her that you care for her, no matter what happens. Also, get her involved in activities at the YMCA, church, and other positive sponsors.

Q: How does it feel to play for the Houston Comets, and how do you treat your fans when they see you?
Demetra

Tammy:
I enjoy playing for the best team in the league, and I treat them as avid fans that come out to support us.

Q: How long do you practice?
Nancy

Tammy:
I usually practice for about an hour and a half a day during the offseason. During preseason, I practice twice a day for two hours and during the season I practice anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half.

Q: What type of work are you planning on doing after retirement?
Debra

Tammy:
Hopefully coaching with the Houston Comets, or working with children and young adults.

Q: What do I have to do in order to see you and the other players at the games, and get your autograph?
Carolyn

Tammy:
Get there early and get a pass to get in line after the games, or you can wait and hear when we are doing appearances around the community.

Q: What would you like to pass on to the younger generation of basketball players?

Tammy:
Remember how you got here, and always love the game.

Q: Do you have any individual goals that you want to accomplish this season?

Tammy:
Just to win a championship.

Q: Will we see “Coach Tammy Jackson”?

Tammy:
I would like for that to happen.

Q: How can I get a player’s jersey?

Tammy:
You can go online to the WNBA Store and check out the latest selection.

Q: How long have you played for the Comets?
Amanda

Tammy:
I have played since the first season in 1997.
