Todd Troxel

Assistant Coach

Todd Troxel joins the Mercury for his first season as an assistant coach on Sandy Brondello’s staff. Troxel spent the 2012-13 season as a player development coach with UMMC Ekaterinburg, the team for which Brondello coaches and Mercury guard Diana Taurasi plays in Russia during the WNBA offseason.

A former point guard and four-year performer at Doane College (1995-99), Troxel was a two-time team captain and helped lead the program to a conference championship and the national tournament for just the second time in school history. Troxel’s post-playing career began with noted sports representation firm BDA Sports, where he served as a player development coach for the agency’s clients beginning in 2002. Troxel became the basketball director at Velocity Sports in 2006, where he trained and prepared more than 50 professional players for the NBA, WNBA, NCAA and Euroleague.

Troxel has been a player development coach and consultant for a number of NBA players, including former No. 1 pick Yao Ming, former No. 3 pick OJ Mayo, No. 9 pick Joel Pryzbilla and No. 16 pick Luke Babbit. Additionally, he was worked with WNBA stars like former MVP Taurasi and former Defensive Player of the Year Sylvia Fowles. He has served as a development consultant for the Houston Rockets, Chinese Men’s National Team, Spartak Moscow, the Russian Women’s National Team, and the Shanghai Sharks.
