Sue Panek enters her fourth season on the Dream staff, where she serves as the Director of Basketball Operations. Prior to joining the Dream, Panek spent the previous seven years as head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She also has experience in the WNBA as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Sting (1997-2001) and as an advanced scout with the Washington Mystics (2005-2006). Panek began her coaching career at Florida State University, where she was an assistant coach from 1993-1996. She then spent a year as an assistant at her alma mater, the University of Maryland, before accepting an assistant coaching position with the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting (the team folded in 2007). As an assistant on the Sting staff for five seasons, Panek’s responsibilities included: college scouting, player development, scouting of opponents, coordinating team travel, equipment management, and clinician with the Junior Hornets/Sting Youth Basketball Program. A member of the Maryland basketball team from 1988-1992, Panek helped the Terrapins to four straight NCAA tournament appearances, including a Final Four berth in 1989 and a trip to the Elite 8 in 1992. During her senior season, the Terrapins held the number one national ranking for four weeks. Panek graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland. A native of Lilly, Pennylvania, she currently resides in Atlanta.
