Sandy Brondello

Sandy Brondello made her WNBA coaching debut with the Silver Stars in 2005. A WNBA veteran, she played five seasons in the WNBA with the Seattle Storm (2003), Miami Sol (2001-02) and the Detroit Shock (1998-99). During her five-year career she started in 146 of 155 games, averaging 11.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 29.6 minutes per game. She ranks fourth all-time in the WNBA in three-point shooting, connecting on 41.0 percent (114-278) of her shots from beyond the arc and ranks ninth all-time in free-throw shooting hitting 85.4 percent (316-370) of her free throw attempts. In 1999 she was selected to play in the inaugural WNBA All-Star Game.

A native of Australia, Brondello played for the Australian National Team for 18 years and is a four-time Olympian. She is a two-time silver medalist (2000 and 2004 Olympics) and took home a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. She also represented Australia at the 1988 Olympics. In 1992, Brondello was named the Australian International Player of the Year. She helped Australia bring home the bronze medal at the 2002 FIBA World Championship and the 1998 FIBA World Championship. Brondello has competed at the 1994 and 1990 World Championships and the 1990 Goodwill Games.

Prior to playing in the WNBA, Brondello played in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) in Australia from 1986-96 where she was named a WNBL All-Star in 1994 and 1995, and WNBL MVP in 1995. She also played in Germany for BTV Wuppertal from 1992-2002. She served as the team captain for Wuppertal from 1993-97 and helped the team win 10 German Cup Championships. In 1996, Brondello was named the European Cup MVP after leading Wuppertal to the 1996 European Cup title. In addition to her MVP honors, Brondello was named a European Cup All-Star in 1994, 1996 and 1997.

Brondello earned a degree in teaching from the University of Western Sydney in 1990. She is married to her longtime coach at Wuppertal, Olaf Lange. Sandy and Olaf welcomed their first child, Brody Max Lange, in February 2007.
