NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2007 – Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc., the National Basketball Association and the Women’s National Basketball Association today announced an unprecedented, season-long community outreach initiative called Toyota Project Rebound as part of a multi-year extension of their marketing partnership. Toyota Project Rebound will include 15 hands-on service projects that will be hosted by NBA teams and joined by volunteers from Toyota, NBA and WNBA offices.
Toyota Project Rebound will tie together the community efforts of the leagues, through NBA Cares and WNBA Cares, along with the efforts of the NBA teams into a national program with the support of a single corporate partner in Toyota. The 15 community rebuilding projects, including court refurbishments, the creation of Learning & Play Centers, and other Legacy Projects will take place during the 2007-08 season, NBA All-Star and The Finals. Toyota Project Rebound launches today with a court refurbishment and basketball clinic at the Boys & Girls Club of Lodi, N.J., hosted by the NBA and New Jersey Nets. The Club’s court, which was damaged in the floods that ravaged the New York/New Jersey-area in April 2007, will be dedicated with the help of Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, and Jason Collins.
Toyota, which has been an official NBA and WNBA marketing partner since March of 2005, will also serve as the official vehicle of NBA All-Star, NBA Cares, WNBA All-Star and WNBA Cares.
“Toyota is a worldwide leader in both the automotive category and in social responsibility, which makes them the perfect partner for our NBA and WNBA Cares initiatives,” said Mark Tatum, Senior Vice President of Marketing Partnerships for the NBA. “They have been an active partner in many of our NBA Cares programs, and through Toyota Project Rebound we are enhancing our commitment to make an impact on communities and people in need.”
“Toyota is proud to be working with an organization that’s as focused on giving back to the community as we are,” said Keith Dahl, National Engagement Marketing Manager for Toyota. “Toyota Project Rebound is a program that will positively affect communities for years to come.”
Following the Nets event, Toyota Project Rebound will support additional projects with NBA teams including the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Washington Wizards, the Philadelphia 76ers, the New Orleans Hornets, the Phoenix Suns, the Milwaukee Bucks, the Portland Trailblazers, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the NBA Development League’s Sioux Falls SkyForce.
As part of the support of WNBA Cares, Toyota and the WNBA will also host several Toyota Project Rebound events during the 2008 WNBA season.
