Boost Mobile to Present 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player Award

NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2012 – The WNBA and Boost Mobile, a leader in the no-contract wireless industry, today announced that Boost Mobile will be the presenting partner of both the 2012 WNBA MVP Award as well as the 2012 WNBA MVP Fan Vote and Sweepstakes, which takes into account fan voting for the second time in league history. The winner will be determined by a panel of 42 voters consisting of sportswriters and broadcasters as well as an MVP fan vote online and via mobile devices.

Fans can help decide the 2012 WNBA MVP by casting their votes online and via their mobile devices at WNBA.com/mvpvote. WNBA MVP Vote and Sweepstakes Presented by Boost Mobile begins at noon EST on Monday, Sept. 10, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 23. Fans may vote once per day online during the voting period on both their mobile device and their computers. The recipient of the 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player Award will be announced during the WNBA Playoffs Presented by Boost Mobile.

“The WNBA Most Valuable Player Award Presented by Boost Mobile honors the highest individual achievement among the best players in the world,” said WNBA President Laurel J. Richie. “Having Boost Mobile, our marquee partner, support the award that recognizes our marquee player, is consistent with the WNBA’s goal to directly engage our passionate fan base through a variety of unique initiatives.”

“The WNBA has such a passionate and loyal fan base,” said Steve Gaffney, Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Boost Mobile. “The WNBA MVP Vote and Sweepstakes is a great opportunity for fans to get involved and take part in selecting this year’s Most Valuable Player.”

The 2012 WNBA MVP Fan Vote and Sweepstakes Presented by Boost Mobile will be supported during WNBA telecasts, online at WNBA.com, through voting platforms, via the “Race to the MVP presented by Boost Mobile” feature that tracks MVP candidates each week and through social media. The fan vote will count as one vote and will be compiled with the 41 media votes to determine the winner.

In addition, the sweepstakes will run during the voting period on WNBA.com/mvpvote. Fans who vote can enter into a contest for a chance to win a three-day, two-night trip, including round-trip airfare and hotel for two with two tickets to one game of the 2012 WNBA Finals that will be presented by Boost Mobile.

There have been eight recipients of the MVP Award in the WNBA’s 15-year history: Tamika Catchings, Indiana Fever (2011); Lauren Jackson, Seattle Storm (2003, ‘07, ‘10); Diana Taurasi, Phoenix Murcury (2009); Candace Parker, L.A.
