She's wanted to be a pro "for as long as (she) can remember," and Seattle Storm first-round pick Katie Gearlds is getting her chance. She's a Purdue grad, a dog lover and an aspiring golfer, and you can get to know her in the latest edition of "Time Out."

    Where are you from?
    "Beech Grove, Indiana."
    Who has been your role model in basketball?
    "My parents. They definitely never pushed me to do anything I did not want to do. They have always been supportive of everything. "
    When did you become interested in the game of basketball and when did you decide you wanted to pursue it professionally?
    "I can't remember not being interested in the game and for as long as I can remember, I have wanted to play professionally."
    If you could play one-on-one against anyone, who would it be?
    "Reggie Miller; I have always loved him growing up and I find him very attractive."
    Do you have a favorite on-court moment?
    "This past year, my senior year at Purdue, winning the WNIT championship, the Big Ten Tournament, and making it to the Elite Elite."
    Do you have any superstitions or rituals? What are they and how did they come about?
    "I used to be very superstitious, but traveling makes it difficult to do the same routine every time. I just try to take a nap before every game."
    What is your daily workout routine like?
    "Waking up whenever the dogs get me up and going for a nice jog with them before heading to the gym to lift and shoot. I don't really do the same thing every day. I love playing one on one with my younger brother."
    Is there a coach who really inspired you? How have they improved your game and helped in your development off the court?
    "I have been very blessed to have played for some great coaches. My high school coach always pushed me every day, and I was fortunate to have two awesome coaches in Kristy Curry and Sharon Versyp. All three coaches challenged me to become a better leader and because of them, I am who I am today."
    What would you do with an Olympic medal if you won one?
    "I would mount it somewhere in my house where I would walk by it every day. It would bring a smile to my face."
    What other sports do you play? And how good are you?
    "I love golf and would consider myself a novice."
    What are your hobbies or interests outside of basketball?
    "I like golf and watching movies with friends."
    How would other people describe you?
    "Honest, sincere, laid-back and easy going."
    What is one surprising fact about you that not many people know?
    "I have two dogs: a golden retreiver (Peyton) and a yorkshire terrior (Kenzie)...both are girls that I love so much!"

    "I would love to get into coaching one day!"

    "Hopefully, I'll meet people along the way and gain contacts that will help get me into college coaching one day."
