The Other Side of the Game

Connecticut Sun forward Jess Brungo has spent part of her off-season getting a feel for the other side of professional sports, working as an intern for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

Brungo has worked in public relations and community relations for the Warriors during the past month, helping to set up and organize events involving Golden State players. Recently, she was involved in a Thanksgiving event in Oakland, where members of the team served dinner to the needy.

“I do a lot of different things,” Brungo said. “They kind of rotate me through different departments.”

Brungo has participated in ‘Read to Achieve’ events, including one with Golden State guard/forward Mickael Pietrus at an area school. She had her own ‘Read to Achieve’ event on the Oakland Arena concourse during halftime of a game recently.

“It’s interesting to see how all the different things work,” Brungo said. “I think it definitely gives me an appreciation for what everyone else (in a professional organization) does. There is a lot of preparation that goes into it. It’s been fun.”

Arranged through the WNBA, Brungo’s internship began November 1st, and will end December 16th.
