Leah Secondo Diary # 3

Leah Secondo begins her sixth season of affiliation with the Connecticut Sun Radio Broadcast Team. The journey continues as Leah documents the season and travels with the team in her diary.

Washington Game June 30: There is much anticipation to get this game underway. The Sun has been off for a few days (practicing of course), but are hungry to play and continue the current win streak. The players and staff know that Washington is an up and down team in which the Sun have had their number as of late. After working so hard to sweep two from Detroit, building momentum with another solid performance would be like drinking a can of Red Bull….a pure boost.

The Sun did not disappoint any of the over 6,200 fans on hand! Washington did not have an answer for the Palmer-McWilliams Franklin one-two scoring punch inside. I felt as though each time Washington attempted to mount a comeback the Sun would respond with an air of confidence that they have not displayed over the period of the franchise. Connecticut put the game away on the line with Lindsey Whalen making a career high 10 of 12 free throws. All 10 of her points in the game came from the charity stripe. Taj, Wendy and Keesh all scored 13 each, Katie Douglas scored 11, and Asjha Jones added 9 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. I can’t say enough about how you can really get a sense that Asjha is feeling more comfortable in her new surroundings as we progress through the season. What a great addition to the team! Sun are HOT HOT HOT…the fifth victory in a row 78-69.

It sets-up for great theater for Tuesday night when Indiana comes to the Mohegan Sun. The Fever and the Sun are tied for first place. Indiana will be hungry to get back at the Sun after Connecticut handled All Star Tamika Catchings and the Fever just a week and a half ago at the Conseco Fieldhouse.

By the way, I was told tonight that you could see the Sun home games throughout the Casino property for the remainder of the season. They are taking the arena television feed and adding our radio feed to it. It’s a wonderful way to catch the game if you can’t get to it.

I hope all of you have a safe Fourth of July and we will catch up again after Tuesday’s game.
