VanDerveer to Leave Storm Coaching Staff

August 28, 2007
- The Seattle Storm today announced that the organization has agreed to release Assistant Coach Heidi VanDerveer from the final year of her contract. VanDerveer will be free to pursue other coaching opportunities this offseason.

“Heidi’s contributions to our coaching staff and the organization these last two seasons have been invaluable and I can’t thank her enough for her hard work, creative insight and unending support,” Storm Head Coach Anne Donovan said. “While I hate to lose a coach of Heidi’s caliber, I understand her desire to pursue other coaching opportunities at this time and I wish her the best of luck in her next endeavor.”

An eight-year year veteran of the WNBA coaching ranks, VanDerveer joined the Storm on Feb. 6, 2006, and has spent the last two seasons as an assistant on Donovan’s staff. VanDerveer began her WNBA coaching career as an assistant with the Sacramento Monarchs in 1997 before taking over the head coaching position in 1998. She then spent four seasons on the Minnesota Lynx coaching staff from 1999 through 2002, serving as the head coach in 2002
