Postgame Quotes/Notes: New York 77, Storm 59

STORM HEAD COACH BRIAN AGLER:

On the game:
I didn't think we were quite engaged defensively. Earlier, I thought we were, but, as the game moved forward, they were pretty much doing what they wanted to do. And when you turn the ball over 25 times, those are 25 possessions where they're either scoring easily or you're on your heels defensively.

STORM GUARD SUE BIRD:

On the game:
As a team we turned the ball over way too much. That for us and for any team, is a bad thing. For us, specifically, it is a bad thing because, when we get out defense set, we're a much better team. They were able to get out on transition, get easy buckets. We hadn't seen this in a while; it was uncharacteristic. We hadn't played like this for a while. It was definitely disappointing.

NEW YORK HEAD COACH JOHN WHISENANT:
On the game:
Our defense was good. We got 12 steals, which is important for our defense because that gives us offensive opportunities in the open floor where you take advantage of the quickness of Cappie (Pondexter) and Essence (Carson) and trail shooters like Leilani (Mitchell) and Nicole (Powell). It was a nice win against a team that is on a roll. They are a good team. I'm sure they'll be in the playoffs and be a contender.

On covering for injuries in the post:
We are certainly going to give Kelley Cain an opportunity. We drafted Kelley with our first pick for a reason. We think she has a good upside so we'll give her an opportunity as those chances arise.

NEW YORK GUARD CAPPIE PONDEXTER:
On the game:
It was a big win. It's something we needed, especially having Kia (Vaughn) go out. Everybody stepped up, especially Essence. Nicole came in the fourth and really provided a spark, so it was definitely a team effort.

Caron's play:
She worked to win today and I did as well.

NEW YORK FORWARD ESSENCE CARSON:
On the Liberty's play:
We worked a lot on offense over the break in addition to defense. It is really about fine tuning and getting the timing right and continuing to build the chemistry.
