Postgame Quotes/Notes - Storm 92, New York 84
STORM HEAD COACH BRIAN AGLER:
On the first half:
Iíll say both teams sort of struggled offensively. We were just talking about how the game changed from one half to the next. It looked like a low-scoring game in the first half, then both teams were scoring close to 50 or over 50 in the second half. It had to be a great game for the fans because both teams were scoring. We donít necessarily like it that way, but Iím just glad we stayed with them in the game offensively.
STORM GUARD SUE BIRD:
On the game:
It was good to get a win here for us coming off a loss. Being on the road it was great to bounce back. Back-to-back situations are not always the easiest, but we really responded well. On winning without the team's best effort:
I think it got to a point in the first half where at times we didnít play our best. We had to grind this one out. It felt similar to how it felt last night against Indiana in the first half. At one point we pulled everyone together and said, 'Look, we are up by one.' At that point everyone took a deep breath and had control of the game a little better.
On the game:
We lost our aggressiveness. In the first half, I thought we were super-aggressive. They switched a lot of screens, which we talked about coming in, and that got them in foul trouble and got to the free throw line. The second half we got there five times. We settled for jump shots instead of getting into the paint, and really forcing them to switch and defend. On transition opportunities:
I thought Plenette (Pierson) did a great job getting out in transition, and Taj (McWilliams-Franklin) here and there. Overall, I thought Seattle did a great job in their transition defense getting back. I think they contained us. I donít think we werenít running, we were running. I thought they got back and contained it pretty well. We didnít get anything easy in transition, or very few things. On Pierson's debut:
She did amazing. Sheís the post presence that we need. I think Janel (McCarville) and Taj did a great job, and Plenette just gave us one more punch in there. Sheís tough to guard, sheís strong. Our points in the paint went up because of Plenette tonight; she did a great job.
On the game:
Sue came up crucial for her team in the fourth quarter. She hit shots when they needed them. Itís no question their team is great, and we fought hard for the most part. On the fourth quarter:
In my mind, weíre right there. (If) we get the stops we need, we (offensive rebound), we defensive rebound, weíll be fine. Itís just the little things that we have to fix. Itís not about who could score this or that, itís just about fixing those little things at this moment. On team chemistry:
I think itís fine. We donít really have a choice at this point. The season is full steam ahead. Chemistry, we could talk about it, but our job is to win and thatís the bottom line. 2010 Postgame Quotes/Notes Archive
