April 29, 2013

SEATTLE - Seattle Storm Head Coach and General Manager Brian Agler announced the addition of Sam MacKay to the 2013 training camp roster.

MacKay is an undrafted 5-8 guard from Dayton. She is the first player in Dayton history to get an invite to a WNBA camp.

Just to know I have this opportunity to complete at this level is so amazing, MacKay said. I owe it to all the coaches and everyone involved at the University of Dayton. I want to keep working hard and, ultimately, make this team.

The 2012-13 Flyers completed Atlantic 10 conference play with a 14-0 record, finishing with the programs first regular season A-10 championship title. They amassed a school record 28 wins in a season, the most since becoming a Division I program in 1986.

Sam had a significant career at the University of Dayton, Agler said. She is a quarterback-type point guard where she will lead and organize on the floor. We are excited about her being in camp.

Seattle previously signed guards Temeka Johnson and Noelle Quinn and forward Nakia Sanford to free agent contracts. The team also announced the return of forward Alysha Clark and the addition of Chay Shegog, Cierra Bravard, Katelan Redmon and Keisha Hampton to the 2013 training camp roster.

The Storm rounds out the squad with returning veterans Tanisha Wright, Camille Little, Tina Thompson and second-year player Shekinna Stricklen.

The Storm opens the 2013 season with a preseason road game against L.A. on May 12, followed by a preseason home game vs. Tulsa on May 17. The regular season begins on the road against L.A. on May 26, with the home opener on June 2 vs. Phoenix.
