Storm Signs Metcalf, Yamasaki

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today signed 5-7 guard Leah Metcalf and 6-1 forward Lindsey Yamasaki to training camp contracts, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

A 2005 graduate from the University of North Carolina, Metcalf averaged 7.8 points, 3.8 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 130 games over four years for the Tar Heels. Metcalf was a member of the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2002, an ACC All-Academic Team selection in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and was both the team and academic captain at UNC during her senior season.

Yamasaki brings two seasons of WNBA experience to the Storm, having averaged 3.5 points and 1.0 rebounds in 15 appearances for the Miami Sol in 2002 and 0.7 points and 0.5 rebounds in 24 games for the New York Liberty in 2003. The former Stanford standout averaged 13 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in four years with the Cardinal.

Originally selected by Miami in the second round (29th overall) in the 2002 WNBA Draft, Yamasaki is currently playing for the San Jose Spiders of the NWBL. Yamasaki is averaging 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 14 games for the Spiders.

The Storm will open their 2006 season against Western Conference rival Los Angeles at KeyArena on Sunday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The following Tuesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Houston Comets at 8 p.m. at the Key. The Storm vs. Comets game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
