The Seattle City Council this afternoon unanimously approved a long-term lease with the Seattle Storm that will keep KeyArena as the Storm’s home for the next decade. The agreement was approved by a 7-0 vote.

Today’s action follows from a resolution passed by the City Council in February 2008, shortly after Force 10 Hoops announced that they had secured an option to purchase the Storm from the owners of the Seattle SuperSonics, that directed the Seattle Center to work in collaboration with the Storm’s new local owners to negotiate a long-term lease.

“As Storm fans know, KeyArena has been a wonderful home court for the Seattle Storm since our inaugural season in 2000, and we are thrilled to have secured it for the next 10 years,” said Anne Levinson, chair of Force 10 Hoops L.L.C., the Storm ownership group. “We appreciate the support of the City Council and the Mayor and look forward to celebrating our 10th Anniversary season at the Key next summer.”
