Storm Re-Signs Gortman
SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today re-signed 5-10 guard Shaunzinski Gortman to a training camp contract, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Gortman appeared in 20 games for the Storm during the 2006 season, averaging 2.8 ppg and 2.4 rpg, before suffering a season-ending injury (torn right ACL) vs. New York on July 14. She scored a season-high eight points at Chicago on June 15 and vs. Minnesota on July 1. She grabbed a career-high eight rebounds vs. San Antonio on June 23.
The former University of South Carolina standout was drafted by the Charlotte Sting in the first round (ninth overall selection) of the 2002 WNBA Draft. She was then traded on April 19, 2002 to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for forwards Erin Buescher and Maylana Martin. Gortman signed with Washington as a free agent midway through the 2004 WNBA season and spent parts of 2005 and 2006 playing in Israel before signing with Seattle on March 16, 2006.
