Storm Re-Signs Burse

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today re-signed 6-5 center Janell Burse, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Burse started and appeared in 27 games for the Storm during the 2006 season, her best statistically, averaging 11.1 ppg and 6.6 rpg. She scored a season-high 24 points against Minnesota on July 1 and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds at Connecticut on June 9. Burse owns career averages of 6.6 ppg and 4.0 rpg over six seasons split between Minnesota and Seattle.

We are very excited to have Janell return to help us in our quest to win another championship, said Donovan. JB is an instrumental part of our post game and has proven to be one of the best centers in the WNBA.

The former Tulane standout was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round (28th overall selection) of the 2001 WNBA Draft. In April of 2004, the Storm acquired Burse along with Sheri Sam from the Lynx in exchange for forward Amanda Lassiter and the Storms first-round pick (sixth overall selection) in the 2004 WNBA Draft.

Im looking forward to another great season with my Storm teammates, said Burse. Ive enjoyed playing and working on my post game while in the Czech Republic this off-season, but Im also ready to start working toward another playoff run in Seattle.

The 2007 Storm season will open against the Houston Comets on Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. The following Wednesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Phoenix Mercury at 7 p.m. at KeyArena. The defending WNBA Champion Detroit Shock will visit KeyArena on Wednesday, June 20.
