Sue Bird was the top pick of the 2002 WNBA draft. And it looks like a fellow UConn Husky will follow her footsteps as a high draft pick.

Caron Butler, a 6-7 small forward, is projected as a top-five pick. Bird gives us her scouting report on the explosive Butler:

“Caron is a great player. He reminds me a lot of Paul Pierce. They do a lot of the same things. They shoot the three and get in the lane. He’s also a great rebounder. But the best part about it is that he’s fun to be around. He’s a great guy. At Connecticut he always supported the women’s team.

“Still, he can talk trash with the best with them. It makes it entertaining. He’s been known to dunk on a few guys.”

And what advice does she have for Butler and other hopeful draftees?

“You have to take everything in stride,” she said, “Everything is out of your hands. They’ve played their games, they’ve done their work on the court. And they just have to wait.”
