Storm Selects Alisa Burras in Dispersal Draft
A four-year WNBA veteran, Burras played with the Portland Fire the last three seasons (2000-02). She averaged 8.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 32 games, 24 of which she started, with the Fire last year.
“I’m ecstatic that we had the opportunity to select Alisa with the ninth pick in the dispersal draft,” Storm Head Coach Anne Donovan said. “She’ll be the perfect complement to our roster with her strong post presence and tremendous experience in the league. She fills a void for us in that she is an established rebounder who will help take the pressure off Lauren Jackson in the post.”
A 1998 graduate of Louisiana Tech, Burras began her WNBA career with the Cleveland Rockers in 1999 and was selected by Portland in the 2000 WNBA Expansion Draft. She has career averages of 7.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 110 games.
The Storm have three picks – the eighth, 22nd and 37th – in tomorrow’s 2003 WNBA Draft, which consists of three rounds. The draft is tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 25th at 10 a.m. (PDT), subject to a signed collective bargaining agreement between the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association.
The Storm tip off their fourth season in the WNBA on Thursday, May 22 at Houston and will host their home opener against the two-time defending WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks at KeyArena on Friday, May 30.
