SEATTLE - The Storm has partnered with Special Olympics Washington to provide Unified Basketball for girls with and without intellectual disabilities. Both organizations joined together to host the first-annual “Tip-Off” this past Saturday, Dec. 14 at Seattle Pacific University. Check out our Photo Gallery of the event.
“We are very excited to announce our partnership with Special Olympics Washington and Unified Sports,” said Storm President & CEO Karen Bryant. “The Storm recognizes the importance of the development of youth sports programs and this partnership is a continuation of that belief.”
As part of the celebration, Seattle Pacific University hosted Unified basketball teams from the greater Seattle area in a six-team tournament. There was also a ceremony to recognize the partnership with Unified basketball games. The event rounded out with the opportunity for the teams to watch Kings HS vs. Archbishop Murphy, followed by Seattle Pacific vs. Warner Pacific. Postgame activities even featured a meet-and-greet with SPU players.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Seattle Storm,” Special Olympics President & CEO Beth Wojick said. “The Storm’s influence brings Unified Basketball to an entirely new level and strengthens our ability to reach thousands more athletes across the state.”
