It took less than two years for Nnemkadi Ogwumike - better known as Nneka - to establish herself as the latest great player from Stanford. After coming off the bench part of her freshman season, the co-Parade High School Player of the Year broke through as a sophomore, averaging 18.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Ogwumike had bigger things in store. During her senior season, which is still active after Stanford secured a fifth consecutive trip to the Final Four on Monday night, Ogwumike has averaged 22.5 points (eighth in the country) and 10.3 rebounds (16th).

What Ogwumike has shown this year is an ability to single-handedly take over games. She's gone for 30-plus points six times, including a spectacular 42-point outing (on 27 shots) against Tennessee and 39 points during the regional semifinal against South Carolina. Just two things are missing from Ogwumike's collegiate resume, and she has a chance to add both by next Tuesday - a Player of the Year award and an NCAA title.

  • Post Scoring - By this point, Ogwumike has become impossible to stop without a double-team. She does an excellent job of establishing position in the paint and has good footwork and finishing ability around the basket.
  • Rebounding - Before anything else, Ogwumike excelled on the glass. She grabs 19.8 percent of available rebounds and has grabbed at least 15 rebounds six times this year.
  • Athleticism - Ogwumike is fast for a post player and can create easy baskets by beating the defense downcourt. Her strong agility will allow her to defend on the perimeter in the WNBA.
  • Height - At 6-2, Ogwumike is a touch small for a professional power forward, though her wingspan helps her play bigger than her listed height.
  • Shooting Range - Ogwumike is an accurate midrange shooter and excellent at the free throw line (83.1 percent) but has yet to translate that into three-point range. She's made just six career triples. If she adds the three to her game, look out.

"Extremely high energy player. Tremendous rebounder. Has improved her offensive skills. A true four player who plays with a high level of intensity.."
