Stars Sign Whitney Hand-Jones and Carolyn Davis
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Stars have signed guard Whitney Hand-Jones and forward Carolyn Davis to their 2014 training camp roster, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Hand-Jones was originally drafted by the Stars with the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft out of the University of Oklahoma. In her four years as a Sooner, Hand-Jones appeared in 104 games, averaging 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.15 steals in 32.5 minutes. The Fort Worth native was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Big 12 Championship Tournament Team in 2012.
A 6-3 forward out of the University of Kansas, Davis became only the seventh player in team history to record 1,700 points and collect 700 rebounds in a career. She was named to the All-Big 12 First Team following the 2011-12 season and the All-Big 12 Second Team the following year. The Houston native led her team in scoring during her senior season, averaging 15.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Davis spent part of the past offseason playing overseas in France with Reims, averaging 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
San Antonio Stars training camp begins on Sunday, April 27. The team will face the Tulsa Shock twice during the preseason, on May 2 in Tulsa and on May 6 in San Antonio at the AT&T Center.
The Stars tip-off the 2014 season, presented by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa and H-E-B, on the road on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. against the Atlanta Dream. The Stars 2014 home opener takes place the following night on May 17 at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center against the Tulsa Shock. Ticket plans for the upcoming season are now available.
