SAN ANTONIO (AP)—The Indiana Fever used a last-second layup by Briann January to defeat the San Antonio Silver Stars, 69-67, in preseason action on Saturday night at Trinity University. 

In a game characterized by 15 lead changes, neither team took a lead of more than three points in the first quarter. The Fever took a seven point lead midway through the second quarter, but the Silver Stars responded with a 17-0 run to take a 36-26 lead and entered the break with a 36-31 advantage. 

Indiana responded after the half, outscoring San Antonio 31-17 in the third quarter. Down 54-62 in the fourth quarter, Silver Stars guard Tully Bevilaqua kick started a scoring run, netting a jumper with 5:53 remaining in regulation. San Antonio outscored Indiana 11-0 through the next three minutes to take a 67-62 advantage with 2:47 remaining. 

Indiana’s Shavonte Zellous hit a jumper with 1:08 remaining to make it a one-possession game before Roneeka Hodges connected from 3-point range to tie the game with 42 seconds left to play. January then secured the win for the Fever, netting a driving layup with 1.9 seconds on the clock.

Silver Stars Danielle Adams had a team-best 12 points while rookie Shenise Johnson added 11 points. Jia Perkins and Chilean rookie Ziomara Morrison each had 10. Adams led the team with seven rebounds while Danielle Robinson had a game-high four assists.

Hodges led all scorers with 16 points while reigning MVP Tamika Catchings and Briann January each added 12. Erlana Larkins led Indiana with seven rebounds.

The two teams meet again in the second part of a home-and-away preseason series on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. CT.
