Silver Stars Superlatives: 2011 Sixth Woman of the Year

With the 2011 Silver Stars season in the books, is giving fans the opportunity to cast their vote on team and season superlatives.

Over the next five weeks, Silver Stars fans will have the opportunity to vote on the Newcomer of the Year, Sixth Woman of the Year, Performance of the Year and Game of the Year. Candidates for each category will be announced every Monday.

Sixth Woman of the Year

The Silver Stars boasted one of the most productive benches in the season in 2011, with the reserves averaging 30.6 points per game while accounting for 40 percent of the teams total scoring. The bench scored more than 50 percent of the team’s points in seven games during the season.

The candidates for Sixth Woman of the Year were selected using WNBA criteria – the athlete must have participated in 75 percent of the teams regular-season games (26 games) and have appeared in more games as a reserve than as a starter.

Jayne Appel – Appel was a reserve in all 31 games in which she appeared during the season. She averaged 3.2 points per game while leading the bench with 4.6 rebounds per game. Appel ranked fourth in the WNBA and led the Silver Stars with 12.6 rebounds per 40 minutes.
Roneeka Hodges – Hodges came off the bench in 23 games, averaging 2.8 points per game with 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists and shot 35.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Jia Perkins – Perkins came off the bench in 26 games during her first season with the Silver Stars, averaging 11.5 points per game with 3.0 rebounds, 1.46 assists and a WNBA-best 1.12 steals in those games.
Porsha Phillips – Phillips was a reserve in 30 games during her rookie season. She averaged 1.9 rebounds and 0.40 blocks in 8.3 minutes per game during the regular season. She finished the year leading all rookies with 1.86 blocks per 40 minutes while ranking third with 9.0 rebounds per 40 minutes.
Danielle Robinson – Robinson came off the bench in 25 games as a rookie, averaging 7.3 points per game with 1.9 rebounds and 0.68 steals while ranking second among WNBA reserves with 4.0 assists per contest.
