Silver Stars Superlative Winners

Thank you to all who voted for the 2011 Silver Stars Superlatives. Winners in each of the four categories are announced below.

Newcomer of the Year – Danielle Robinson

Robinson emerged as the leader in a tight race for newcomer of the year, beating out fellow rookie Danielle Adams by 42 votes, while Adams topped veteran Jia Perkins by only four votes.

Selected with the sixth pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft out of the University of Oklahoma, Robinson finished the season as the league’s best rookie point guard. She ranked fifth on the team with 8.2 points per game and added 2.3 rebounds while leading all WNBA rookies with 3.9 assists per contest. She notched 14 double-digit scoring performances during the season, leading the team in scoring three times and assists on eight occasions. Robinson capped off the season with a franchise rookie scoring record, contributing 36 points in a 102-94 overtime victory at Tulsa. A unanimous All-Rookie Team selection, Robinson started the final 12 games of the season and averaged 5.3 points per game with 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals during the Western Conference semifinals.

Sixth Woman of the Year – Jia Perkins

Perkins edged Newcomer of the Year Danielle Robinson by 15 votes to take the Sixth Woman of the Year title.

Perkins came off the bench in 26 games during her first season with the Silver Stars, averaging 11.5 points per game with 3.0 rebounds, 1.46 assists and a WNBA-best 1.12 steals.

Performance of the Year – Becky Hammon

Veteran guard Becky Hammon blew away the competition for Performance of the Year with her season-high 37 points at Los Angeles on Sept. 6. With the win, San Antonio secured its fifth-consecutive playoff bid, defeating Los Angeles, 82-65. The 37 points were one shy of Hammon’s career-high 38, set against Sacramento in 2009. She scored 26 points in the second half, including 17 in the fourth quarter, netting 14-of-19 from the floor with four 3-pointers.

Game of the Year – July 28 vs. Phoenix

The Silver Stars annual Camp Day game earned the 2011 Game of the Year title.

The second-largest crowd in Silver Stars regular-season history – 14,797 – turned out to watch San Antonio earn a 102-91 win against Phoenix in the AT&T Center. Becky Hammon scored 33 points, including a trio of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to lead all scorers.
