Four Sparks Players Invited To USA Basketball Training Camp

The Sparks are proud to congratulate Candace Parker, Lindsey Harding, Nneka Ogwumike and Jantel Lavender for being invited to attend the 2013 USA Women's National Team training camp held October 4-6 in Las Vegas, NV . Two-time Olympic gold medalist Candace Parker is one of 13 Olympic and/or FIBA World Championship gold medalist veterans to headline the list of 33 invitees. Parker, who has been involved in USA Basketball since 2003, will be joined by teammates Harding, Ogwumike and Lavender at the mini camp. Harding was a 2012 U.S. Olympic Team finalist and, along with Parker, is one of 17 returning members of the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team.

Ogwumike, who won gold medals at both the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship and 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, was the youngest member of the 2010 USA Basketball Women's Select Team and was also named to the USA World University Games Team in 2011. Lavender was a three-time gold medalist with the 2011 World University Team, the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championship Team and the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship Team. In addition to 13 All-WNBA selections and 19 WNBA All-Stars, the list of invitees also features 10 of the last 12 No.1 picks in the WNBA Draft including Ogwumike (2012), Parker (2008) and Harding (2007).

The 2013 training camp marks the beginning of a new four-year period for the USA Basketball Women's National Team that will compete at the 2014 FIBA World Championship and, after qualifying, the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in pursuit of its sixth consecutive gold medal and to extend its 41 game Olympic winning streak.
