Nneka's Notes

Nneka Ogwumike recently finished her season in China and LASparks.com had a moment to catch up with the All-Star and get her two cents about everything from Magic Johnson to Chinese food.

What was your initial reaction when you heard Magic bought the Sparks and was keeping the team in LA?
I was absolutely stunned. I honestly believed we'd be relocating to the Bay, which, in my case, is another home away from home. However, upon hearing the great news, I was ready to be back in LA instantly. It's wonderful to have a pioneer of the game support us in the way he has, and we look forward to upholding the LA Sparks legacy.

What are you most looking forward to this season?
EVERYTHING! As everyone knows, we're starting fresh with new ownership and I can't wait to reunite with my teammates and bring in some ambitious rookies to continue another thrilling and successful season.

Magic is a tremendous inspiration both on and off the court. What do you think/know you will be able to learn from him?
I've learned so much from him without having a direct connection, so I can only imagine what I'll absorb from him as our owner. He has magnificently used basketball and his other experiences to impact several areas of business and philanthropy that makes him the role model our nation and Los Angeles community sees today.

What do you want fans to get most excited about this season?
We have such a dedicated fan base that supports us to the death and I couldn't be more thankful. This year, I'd like to see the fans spread a little of their on court passion off the court. I have some really amazing teammates who are even more phenomenal individuals. I believe everyone deserves to truly know the people I know and love, and am fortunate to work with everyday.

What have you missed about LA and what have you loved about China?
I was surprised at how much traditional Chinese food I ate and loved. I can now use chopsticks better than a fork. I did really miss LA though. And, in a failed effort to not sound so cliché, nothing beats the LA weather, the one thing I'm looking forward to the most. :)
