Sparks Home Opener 7:30PM Tuesday at STAPLES Center
Team Returns to Los Angeles After Winning Season Opener in Seattle
The Los Angeles Sparks host the Seattle Storm in their home opener Tuesday at STAPLES Center at 7:30PM. The two teams opened the season Friday in Seattle, where the Sparks came from a 21-point second-half deficit to defeat the Storm 72-66 at Key Arena.
The Sparks return only five players from their lineup a season ago, and have added six new faces to the 2012 team. 2008 WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year Candace Parker and two-time WNBA champion DeLisha Milton-Jones both return to the team. The Sparks also debut four-time All-Star Alana Beard and the number one overall pick from the 2012 WNBA Draft, Nnemkadi Ogwumike.
Kristi Toliver, another returner to this year's Sparks, led the team with 25 points and six assists in Seattle on Friday. Parker added 11 points and four rebounds and Beard added nine points in the victory. The Sparks outscored the Storm 30-10 in the final quarter of the game to make their comeback.
Originally scheduled for May 20 at 5:30PM, the home opener was moved to Tuesday due to the NHL and NBA playoff schedule. Fans who have already purchased tickets to the home opener scheduled for May 20 will be able to use the same tickets for the new date.
