Sparks Clock In as Honorary Crew Members at Trader Joe’s
Sparks players and coaches bagged groceries, passed out delicious samples and signed autographs for fans and customers at Trader Joe's in Long Beach on Monday, August 3rd.
As they walked the aisles of Trader Joe's, customers were offered juice samples by Kristi Harrower in her best Australian accent, served up salad by Assistant Coach and part-time chef Marianne Stanley, and had their groceries bagged by Candace Parker, who claimed she was talented enough to become a crew member should basketball end. Every player had the chance to try all aspects of the "Honorary Crew Member" job.
Head Coach Michael Cooper walked around to interview fans and sign autographs. All of the other Sparks were there as well, signing autographs for fans, avoiding cleanup on aisles and mingling with customers.
'It's been a lot of fun bagging groceries and helping out for a day at Trader Joe's," Parker said. "It's always fun to help with a partnership that gives so much back to the community."
The Sparks and Trader Joe's promotional event was to encourage fans to bring canned goods and non-perishable food to "Pay it Forward" night at the Sparks game on August 6. Sparks staff will be on hand to collect such items from fans for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank prior to tip-off when the Sparks go head to head against conference rival, the Seattle Storm. Fans that donate food items will receive two FREE Sparks tickets to the August 10th game against the Indiana Fever and the fan who brings the most canned food or non-perishable food will receive an autographed Sparks-themed Trader Joe's shirt!
Trader Joe's commitment to the community and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank doesn't stop with "Pay it Forward" Night as it also includes a donation of $75 (benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank) for each three-pointer made by the Sparks at home games during the regular season.
