Sky vs. Washington

Today’s game will be the first game back at Allstate Arena for the Sky after five games on the road in which the Sky travelled from the East coast to the West coast. Today’s game will mark the second meeting between Chicago and Washington this season.

On June 13, the Mystics defeated the Sky for 79-68 in Washington in a game where Chicago was without three key players, Elena Delle Donne, Sylvia Fowles and Jessica Breland. Allie Quigley stepped up and led the team scoring 18 points. Despite the outcome, Chicago was able to force four lead changes before the Mystics’ fourth quarter surge.

The Sky return home from their road trip after two wins and three losses. The Sky split the East Coast portion of their trip 1-1 after falling to Connecticut 69-79 they headed to Madison Square garden for the second time this season and took a 73-69 win over the Liberty. It was then off to the West coast where Chicago broke a seven-year losing streak at the Staples Center defeating the LA Sparks 90-83 before falling to Phoenix on Wednesday night 69-87 and then Seattle 73-80 on Saturday night. Against the Storm Jessica Breland led the team with 20 points and 9 blocks while Sylvia Fowles added 19 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The West Coast trip saw rookie point guard Jamierra Faulkner break out for a career high 27 points in her first WNBA start against the LA Sparks.

The Mystics enter Wednesday’s game coming off three losses against San Antonio (65-73), Indiana (77-80) and Atlanta (73-86). Washington guard Ivory Latta has scored in double-digits 13 times this season and leads her team in ppg. The Sky will look to shut down Latta and gain their momentum back with a win at home in front of thousands of Chicago-land campers.

The Sky then returns to Allstate Arena Friday night to face the Phoenix Mercury led by Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi.
