Sky Blows Out Liberty 89-57
In a preseason matchup between Eastern Conference contenders at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the Chicago Sky got hot early, middle and late outscoring New York 89-57.
Sylvia Fowles and Swin Cash, who have been practicing in Seattle with Team USA, missed the trip, but it didn’t stop Chicago from scoring inside and out.
Epiphanny Prince led all scorers with 15 points including three treys. Le’coe Willingham, in her Sky debut, added 11 points and 3 assists. Shey Peddy scored 14 points all in the second half. Most impressively, Carolyn Swords looked unstoppable in the paint with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks – her first WNBA double / double.
Overall the Sky shot 48.6% and killed the Liberty on the glass 43-27.
Plenette Pierson led New York with 14 points. Cappie Pondexter added 13.
The Sky (2-0 in the preseason), head to Minnesota to play the Lynx tomorrow in its final exhibition game. While the Liberty (0-2), will wait until the 19th for their season opener against Connecticut.
