Playing Like All-Stars
In a close, back and forth game with the Seattle Storm. Chicago’s three All-Star players Sylvia Fowles, Courtney Vandersloot and Epiphany Prince showed why they are going to San Antonio for the All-Star game this season. As the Sky beat the Defending Champion Seattle Storm 78-69 at Allstate Arena.
The Sky and Storm got off to a slow start only shooting 36.4 and 31.4 percent from the field in the first half. Fowles, Price and Vandersloot only scored 6, 6 and 2 points. With 5.9 to go in the first half, Carolyn Sword hit a layup to go up 30-29. However, All-Star Sue Bird came right back and hit a jumper and was fouled with 1.6 left on the clock by Epiphany Prince for the Storm to go up 33-30 at the half.
The Sky came out firing in the second half. With Fowles and Prince going on a 9-0 run to go up 39-33. Prince had a quite first half, but came a live scoring 8 consecutive points in the first three minutes of the third. Prince finished the game with 23 points and 3 steals. Prince this season has double-digit scoring game in every game but one this season. She also now has 12 games with 3 steals or more to lead the WNBA.
In the middle of the fourth, Vandersloot hit a layup with 8:21 to go up 60-57 and the Sky never looked back. Vandersloot and Fowles hit the last 5 of 6 shots for the Sky, and the Sky out scored the Storm 42-24 in the paint to seal the victory.
Vandersloot continues her great freshman year. She finished the game with 11 points and 7 assists. Vandersloot leads rookies in assists this season and is 5th in scoring.
Player of the Week last week and league leading scorer, Sylvia Fowles, continues her amazing play into this week. Fowles scored 18 points in the second half to finish the game with 24 points and 9 rebounds. Fowles now has 11 games where she has scored 20 plus points and has 10 plus rebounds.
Sue Bird scored 26 points and Center Ashley Robinson, in for the three-time MVP Lauren Jackson, had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Storm drop to 7-7.
The Sky are back in action on Thursday at Indiana to play the Fever at 6:00pm.
