Getting in Shape for the Holidays!

The week kicked off on Monday, when the Sky visited various Chicago area high schools with Robert Morris University and surprised students and faculty members with Sky gifts and tickets. The Sky visited Maine West High School in Des Plaines and Addision Trail High School in Addison, IL.

Yesterday, Ann Crosby, the Sky’s strength and conditioning coach, was at iFit Fitness in Chicago, volunteering her time to get people fit and in shape for the holidays.

“I think that this is a great opportunity to give back,” Ann said. “We are fortunate enough to live in a great city like Chicago, and giving back to the people in this city is just a great way to celebrate the holidays.”

iFit Fitness is a corporate fitness center located in Merchandise Mart Plaza, one of the biggest and busiest buildings in Chicago. “One of our busiest times begins right now at 11:00a.m. and tends to calm down at 1:30p.m.,” owner of iFit Fitness Bernie LeCocq said. “With 650 members the center can get a little crowded at lunchtime. We are glad to have Ann here helping out.”

Ann, along with Sky staff, spent the morning talking to customers about getting fit and staying in shape this holiday season. Ann gave advice about what they can do to stay active and get the most from their workouts.

“I love being out here helping people get fit,” said Ann. “Obviously health and fitness is a great passion of mine and it goes a long way. I have worked with Michelle Obama’s campaign working with kids, adults and athletes on fitness and it is really rewarding. “

All participants received a free day pass to the gym and also were entered into a drawing for a chance to win a free month’s pass to iFit and a ticket package from the Sky to a upcoming 2012 Sky game. Ann put participants through a wide range of workouts for a glimpse of what a WNBA player goes through in their workouts. Ann spent 20 to 25 minutes with each participant, teaching them new exercises and showing them ways to incorporate them in their workout routines.

“Ann is very knowledgeable about everything she is doing,” LeCocq said. “It is great to see someone who trains a wide variety of athletes and professional athletes out here working with our customers”

The Sky’s Random Acts of Kindness week continues today when Sky Staff, and Sky Guy, will be volunteering their time at Rice Child + Family Center - 1101 Washington St, Evanston, IL 60202 – from 3:30-6:00p.m. Rice Child + Family Center takes in foster children with a history of violence and abuse. Their goal and mission is to care for and treat these children and return them to loving families. The Sky will host a basketball clinic and undertake arts and crafts projects with the children. Julie Bielawski, Chicago Sky youth basketball coordinator and former Northwestern University basketball player, will lead the basketball clinic.

And don’t forget to stop in at NYCBD at 515N Dearborn between 6am and 12noon on Thursday. Mention the word “SKY” and you will receive a free unsliced bagel from our wonderful partners at New York City Bagel Deli.
