Fowles Is WNBA Peak Performer

Chicago Sky starting center, Sylvia Fowles has won the 2013 WNBA Peak Performer Award for her rebounding accomplishments this season. Showing consistency throughout the Sky’s regular season games, Fowles averaged 11.5 per game to finish as the league’s best rebounder this season.

The WNBA presents the Peak Performer Award each year to the players who lead the league in a variety of statistics including scoring, rebounding and assists. The winners, who stand out in a league of talented athletes, receive a trophy made by Tiffany.

Fowles showed consistency throughout the season as a multi-month rebounding league leader. She had her most outstanding game performances against the Connecticut Sun and their top rebounder Tina Charles, who led the league in rebounding the last three seasons. On May 31 as the Sky faced the Sun, Fowles took down 22 rebounds and offered 24 points. On August 18 against the Sun, Fowles was again a force in the paint bringing down 21 rebounds.

Fowles was in double-digits for rebounding 20 times throughout the season. She had her 22nd career 15-plus rebound game of her career against the Atlanta Dream on September 13 and is tied for third on the WNBA’s all-time list in the statistic. Fowles ranks second all-time in career rebounding average (9.8 per game). Her 369 total rebounds this season is also the third highest single season total in league history.

Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry and San Antonio Silver Star’s Danielle Robinson also took home Peak Performer Awards for scoring and assists respectively.

Fowles will return to the court on Friday, September 20 at the Sky take on the reigning WNBA champions, the Indiana Fever at Allstate Arena for the first game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The 6 p.m. CT game will air locally on The U Too and nationwide on NBA TV.
