A Day in the Life: Brooke Wyckoff

Hi Sky Fans,

It's hard to believe it's already mid-February, and the Sky season is right around the corner! My life has taken a couple of turns since the end of the WNBA season, the latest one has brought me back to Spain, my second favorite country in the world!

As always, I'm here to play some basketball. The other day I realized that the first time I came here to play was five years ago, and I've been back every year since. This season finds me in a truly beautiful place, Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands off the north western tip of Africa.

As you can probably imagine, due to its geographical location, the weather is gorgeous! From what I hear from my friends back in Chicago about how cold it's been there lately, it sounds like I came here just in time! Today, for example, it's about 80 degrees, and there's not a cloud in the sky. I have a gorgeous view of the ocean from my apartment, the beach is only a few minutes away, and I can wear flip flops every day (don't get too jealous). All of these things don't mean my life is a non-stop vacation, I know that I am here to play basketball, and that's what I spend the majority of my time doing.

My team practices Monday through Friday, twice a day. Mornings consist of position shooting, weights and conditioning and "non-contact" team drills. Evening practice is when we work on our offense and defense and prepare for our upcoming game which we play either Saturday or Sunday depending on the opponent. All of that takes quite a bit of energy out of me (I'm not the spring chicken I once was!!) so in-between and after practice you'll usually find me at home, eating, sleeping, reading or on the internet. Exciting stuff I know!

Despite my "busy" schedule of practice, games, travel and resting up for all of it, I do try to get out and enjoy island life and the Spanish culture when I can. I always have a good time hanging out with my teammates who have quickly become some of my really good friends, including Ashley Battle of the NY Liberty.

I absolutely love living in Spain, but I am definitely looking forward to getting back to Chicago and the great view of the city that I have from my apartment there as well. I cant wait to see my great friends, taste all the delicious food, the sunny (hopefully warm) weather, and all the other things that I've come to love about living in windy city. Like I said, the Sky season is just around the corner, I know it'll be a great summer for everyone! See you all in May!
