A Day in the Life: Bo Overton
Itís me, your new Head Coach, Bo Overton, checking in with you this off-season. I canít tell you all how excited and fortunate I feel to be here in Chicago and have the opportunity to be the coach of the Sky. I know good things are going to happen, and we all are going to be a part of it together!
I know that some of you may not know too much about me, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to share with you what a day in the life of Coach Bo is like.
The biggest thing going on in my life right now is getting settled in to my new apartment. Can you believe that I have been here for a couple of weeks and my furniture is still not here?! I mean, come on, sleeping on the floor in college was ok with me, but not anymore. Once I can sleep in my bed and watch TV on my sofa I will feel much better about my situation. Not to mention, it will just be a lot more comfortable! Iíll be sure to get back to all of you when that finally happens.
Another thing about moving that you donít think about is turning on and off all the utilities in your home. I have homes in three states, and let me tell you the number of times that I have had to turn all these things on and off... I have met with a cable guy here in Chicago alone 5 separate times! (Not to mention all of the phone calls Iíve had to make to Oklahoma and Missouri). It seems moving involves more time on the phone and talking to people than it does unpacking! Letís just say, once I can flick on my light switch, sit back and watch some cable television, I will have a big old smile on my face.
One thing Iíve noticed about Chicago that is so cool is all of the different restaurants around town. I am a guy who loves a good meal. When I can walk outside my building and spend more time walking around looking at places to eat than I do actually eating my meal, itís a good sign this town is the perfect fit for me. Iíve made a goal to try all of the fantastic places that Chicago has to offer and I canít wait to dig in and share with you my top picks.
Now that the free agency period has begun, a major part of my day involves sitting down and studying each player that is available to pick up. I have been watching tons of game tape, as well as reading about each player that we are interested in pursuing. This has been a lot of fun for me because I love basketball and getting the chance to scout the best athletes in the world has been nothing but a treat.
If you live in Chicago then you know the past few weeks there has been no way around the Bears frenzy and their playoff push. My Sundays have been spent like most other ChicagoansÖ glued to the television cheering the team on. In my short time here Iíve realized how important sports are to this city and what a championship would mean to everyone in Chicago. It is quite a feeling to think about bringing that experience to the city with the Sky in the future.
Other than that, I am just preparing and anticipating the season. Like I said, I canít wait to take the court and win some games. I look forward to seeing you all in the future. Go Sky!
