Chicago Sky Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Title IX
The Chicago Sky joined Lt. Governor Sheila Simon on The Thompson Center Plaza as she declared June 20, 2012 “Title IX Day” in Illinois in honor of the legislations’ 40th anniversary.
Head Coach Pokey Chatman, Ruth Riley and Swin Cash were on hand to share their stories on how Title IX personally impacted them.
The day’s festivities also included a celebration on The Thompson Center Plaza with representatives from the Sky, Chicago Force and Girls in the Game. Hundreds of Chicagoans were treated to a performance by the Sky’s Fly Kids, Drumline and took their turns at the prize wheel and shot some hoops.
All in all it was a great celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX, but the one message that all of the speakers delivered, was there is more work to be done.
Make sure to join us on August 17th for our Title IX game when the Sky takes on the Atlanta Dream. The Sky’s Title IX Team will be honored during a pregame reception and at halftime. The members are: Margaret Stender, chairwoman, former president and CEO of the Chicago Sky; Sarah Spain, ESPN/ESPNW contributor and reporter; Amy Skeen, president and CEO of Girls in the Game; Lisa Cole, founder of the Chicago Force; Julie Foudy, member of USA Women’s Soccer Team; Peg Kopec, volleyball coach at St. Francis High School in Wheaton; Ramelia Williams, former Chicago director of Go Girl Go!; Maria Wynne, CEO for Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana; and Lt. Governor Simon.
