The Sky was dominant in the month of August, earning honors for individual achievements while winning big as a team. Below is a breakdown of the Sky’s exciting month. August 1- Sylvia Fowles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for July. Fowles averaged 17.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game during July and led the league in rebounds, field goal percentage (.66), and blocks.

August 2- The Sky defeated the Washington Mystics 85-78 at Allstate Arena. The Sky also hosted a Pet Adoption event. Sky fans had a chance to meet cats and dogs that were rescued by Chicago Animal Care & Control. Members of Animal Care & Control were there to discuss the responsibilities of adopting a new family member.

August 3- Avery Warley joined the Sky squad as a replacement player. The Liberty University graduated joined the Sky after spending some court time with the New York Liberty, Washington Mystics and the Phoenix Mercury.

August 5- Elena Delle Donne was named Rookie of the Month for the month of July. Delle Donne led all rookies in July in points (16.4), free throw percentage (.909), and minutes (30.8). She ranked seventh overall in free throw percentage, eighth in scoring, and second in blocks (1.6).

August 9- The Sky defeated the Connecticut Sun 77-61 on the road. Epiphanny Prince was on fire from the field, leading the Sky with a game high 23 points while Elena Delle Donne followed with 19. The Sky also tied their season high grabbing 46 rebounds in the win!

August 11- The Sky defeated the Minnesota Lynx 94-86 in an overtime victory. Sylvia Fowles finished with 31 points while Elena Delle Donne had career high 32 and game tying three pointer with 4.5 seconds left. Delle Donne broke the franchise record for most blocks by a rookie (39 at the time).

August 12- Elena Delle Donne was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week from August 5-11. Delle Donne averaged 21 points and 5.7 rebounds in three games throughout the week. This was Delle Donne’s third player of the week honor.

August 18- The Sky came back from a 25 point deficit to beat the Connecticut Sun 89-78. This was the largest comeback in Sky history and it also tied the WNBA record for largest comeback. Sylvia Fowles posted her second 20-20 game this season with 20 points and 21 rebounds. Fowles became the only player in WNBA history to record multiple 20-20 games in a single season and also set a new Sky record with 14 individual rebounds in the first half. This was the Sky’s 17th win of the season, a new franchise high.

August 19- Sylvia Fowles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. During the week of August 12-18, Fowles averaged 19.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

August 22- Ahead of the Sky’s Breast Health Awareness game, Tamera Young visited cancer patients at Weiss Memorial Hospital. Young has been touched by cancer twice as both her grandma and aunt battled the disease.

August 23- The Sky completed a series sweep over the New York Liberty with an 82-64 win at Allstate Arena. The Sky clinched the first playoff berth in franchise history in front of nearly 6,000 fans. Players and fans were decked out in pink for Breast Health Awareness night.

August 24- The Sky defeated the Atlanta Dream 67-56 in Atlanta and clinched the home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs. The Sky held Atlanta to a .286 field goal percentage, the lowest for an opponent all season. The Sky also tied its season high grabbing 46 rebounds in the win.

August 26- Elena Delle Donne was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. During the week of August 19-25, Delle Donne averaged 20.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1 block.

August 31- The Sky beat the Atlanta Dream 85-68 at home and clinched the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference. This also marked the Sky’s 6th straight win, which tied the longest win streak in franchise history.
