Sky gets a big win over the Los Angeles Sparks

The Sky gets a big win over the Los Angeles Sparks Sunday night at a packed Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. The final score was 85-74.

It was a team effort for the Sky with all starters scoring in double digits as well as Shay Murphy from the bench. Epiphanny Prince was the leading scorer for the second game in a row with 17 points.

The Sparks did not make it easy for the Sky with Kristi Toliver putting up 19 points and Chicago native Candace Parker putting up 15. In the second quarter the Sparks had a 12 point lead, but the Sky fought back with back to back to back unmatched points by Courtney Vandersloot, Shay Murphy, and Swin Cash. With the crowd behind them, the Sky took over.

The Sky made big moves in the paint, scoring 46 of their 85 points from under the basket. The Sky’s defensive rebounding is what turned the tables for the girls in the fourth quarter. They had a defensive rebounding percentage of .719 and moved down the court quickly to score some key unrivaled baskets in the fourth. It was a close game through the third until the Sky had a 25-18 fourth quarter.

This win brings the Sky to 10-16 record on the 2012 season with eight games left. The Sky looked the best they have all season and just in time for the 2012 playoff race.
