Sky Training Camp Starts!

Sky Training Camp Starts!

Training camp starts this week! Head Coach Steven Key will get the players on the court for the first time on Wednesday, April 23. Veteran center Chasity Melvin is the only returning starter slated to be in camp on the first day. She will be joined by returnees Kayte Christensen, Stephanie Raymond and Claire Coggins. Second round draft pick Quianna Chaney (LSU) and third round pick Angela Tisdale (Baylor) will be in camp, along with free agents Amanda Jackson, a guard out of Miami University of Ohio; forward Brooke Queenan of Boston College, who has been playing in Greece; and Nina Stone, a guard from Oklahoma State, who has been playing in Puerto Rico.

Reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Armintie Price, Jia Perkins, Brooke Wyckoff and Sylvia Fowles, the Sky's top pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, will join the team the week of April 28. Fowles comes to camp from China, where she has been playing with USA Basketball's Women's National Team. Free agent Carrie Moore, a guard from Western Michigan University, who has been playing in Poland, will also join camp that week.

WNBA All-Star Candice Dupree and Dominique Canty are playing against each other in the Polish league finals and will return to camp in early May -- as soon as one of their teams wins! Cathy Joens and center Bernadette Ngoyisa, who played for the Sky in the 2006 season, will also be in camp in early May.

The Sky's regular season home opener is on May 22 when the Sacramento Monarchs and Kara Lawson come to town. And don't forget the pre-season game v. Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks at the Sears Centre Arena on May 8.

Join the Sky and Walk for a Cure

Sky athletes, coaches and staff will be walking in the Y-Me Race to Empower, Chicago's largest cause-related walk. (Forty-two thousand people participated last year!) The 3-mile walk begins at 8am on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11 in Grant Park in downtown Chicago. We'd like you to join us! The Sky will have a table in the team village, if we have at least 30 people signed up to participate. This is where you come here to learn more and to sign up.
