Sky Falls to Fever on Opening Night
The Sky (0-3) have a quick turnaround and will play the second leg of a back-to-back with Indiana Sunday evening in Indianapolis.
In her first regular season game at the Allstate Arena, Epiphanny Price had a career-high 20 points off the bench.
“Going up against Indiana is always tough, they are very physical and they get after you,” Fowles said. “I think we got off to a good start and we kind of finished a little shaky. We just got to touch basis on a couple of things and straighten them out for tomorrow and go from there.”
The Sky had four players in double figures. Cathrine Kraayeveld scored 16 points, 10 coming in the first quarter and Shameka Christon added 11 points off the bench.
The Sky set a new franchise record for attendance Saturday on the first night in their new home playing in front of 6,477 screaming Sky fans. The previous record was 6,304.
Chicago native Tamika Catchings led the Fever with 28 points, shooting 65 percent from the field. Shay Murphy also chipped 20 points off the bench, while collecting nine rebounds.
“Last week was obviously very disappointing starting the season 0-2, but the one thing we kind of built off of was being able to have practice together,” Catchings said. “We had a whole week to get ready for Chicago. Everybody came out focused, but of course we’re never satisfied so I know we can do better."
