Sky to Open 2014 Regular Season at Home vs. Fever

After finishing atop the Eastern Conference with a 24-10 record the Sky earned the top seed in the East and faced Indiana (16-18) in the first round of the playoffs. The Sky look to continue to build upon their momentum from the 2013 season with this opening night grudge match against the Fever.

In the offseason Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman made several moves to build her roster as she keeps focus on the goal of a WNBA Championship. New additions include two former Indiana Fever players Jessica Breland and Sasha Goodlett, who signed with the Sky as free agents in April. The dynamic duo of Breland and Goodlett contributed a collective 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game throughout the preseason. Breland is coming off a breakthrough performance against the Mystics, in the Skyís final game of the preseason, where she delivered 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

The Sky also added three players in the 2014 WNBA draft, including 10th overall selection Markeisha Gatling from NC State, Calís Gennifer Brandon and Southern Mississippi point guard Jamierra Faulkner. Sky captain Elena Delle Donne will look to continue where she left off last season after being unanimously selected as the 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year and becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to win the All-Star vote. In the Skyís preseason game in Delaware on Tuesday, the former University of Delaware Blue Hen delivered 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Chicago and Indiana squared off in the WNBA Preseason Tournament in Orlando on May 9, 2014. The Sky defeated the Fever 73-66 to advance to the Championship Game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Chicago recorded nine blocked shots and forced 16 Indiana turnovers to pull away with the win. The Skyís defensive intensity will continue to be the point of emphasis heading into the 2014 home opener.

For the season, the Sky finished first in the WNBA in opponent field goal percentage (.404) while the Fever allowed the fewest points per game (70.5) of all teams in the league. In 2013, the Sky broke the WNBA record for blocks in a season with 225.
